“We started poorly.

“We were half a sleep. It was a poor start but the response was excellent after the first 15-20 minutes. We started to win more headers, we started to win more challenges, we started to stop crosses and I thought we started to get our own game going.

“I thought we deserved our equaliser.

“Mark Reynolds has caught his shot so sweetly. He found a bit of space in the box and it was a lovely finish. I don’t think he was even meant to be there but he should be pleased. It was a brilliant effort.

“The second half was all about trying to get that winning goal. We wanted to come out of the traps quickly and I thought we dominated the second period. There were a lot of tired players on both sides. It was our fourth game in nine days and County had extra time in midweek.

“There were some tired performances but what was evident from my team was a real determination and attitude to win the game.

“The winning goal was fitting to win any game. We won the ball on the half way line and put in a couple of passes. Gary has found the energy to go past his man and stand up a great cross. For Shay to make up that ground from the touchline on the far side says everything about him.

“Shay put his hands up for their goal but he has more than repaid it. He deserved the limelight of scoring the winning goal.

“His goal record up here is incredible. Considering he does not score against anyone else!! I think it is six goals in total and a lot of them have been winners. A lot of them he has showed that real desire to get in to that back stick. Shay is a good finisher but it is very unusual to have such a good record against the one team.

“By and large I thought we played a lot of good stuff.

“We controlled parts of the first half and a lot of the second. There were some good performances. All the lads who came in did well. I thought Stevie May had a brilliant debut, apart from scoring. And he will be disappointed he has not (scored) but he will feel better for having game. He showed what he is going to be for us. He was terrific with either the ball into feet or the ball in behind. His work rate was very good considering he has not had a lot of competitive football.

“There were a lot of big performances.

“I felt defensively we got better as the game went on. I thought the three lads who came on gave us that injection of legs at the right time.

“It is never easy here. We have had a few victories in Dingwall now but they have all been hard fought. You never expect to get it easy. We have good quality players but we have to earn the right to take part in the game and when you come to places like Dingwall and they ask questions of you, you have to stand up to it.

“Sometimes it comes down to that bit of quality. Sometimes it comes down to having that determination to make sure the game went our way. We spoke about that at half time and I thought that was evident at half time.

“We now have a week to prepare for the Dundee game. I will have some decisions to make but it is performances mainly that will decide who plays. What I see in training and what we see in the opposition will be a factor also. It is good that I have options to try and pick the right team.”
