“The move has been in the works for a while. I think that was pretty obvious to everyone. It was not shut away that there was an interest from Aberdeen. I thought it was going to happen, then I thought there was no chance the move would happen. So when the move came back around it was exciting. I jumped at the chance. I wanted to come earlier.
“You go back to when I was at Sheffield Wednesday, again there was a move in the pipeline so to finally be here feels great.
“Obviously it could have gone smoother my time in England but I feel my experience down there will not only benefit me as a footballer but also as a person. I has made me stronger and even more focussed than I was before.
“If Derek was not the manager or had he left I probably would not be here. I think the same could be said for a lot of the signings. Looking in from the outside, knowing that I might be coming, I was keeping a very close eye on the signings that were coming in over the summer. I have played with a good six or seven of the boys with the Scotland U21s.I know the quality he has brought in. That for me speaks volumes for him as a manager.
“I have played and trained for seven months since the injury. That is in the past now. I am looking forward. I am looking forward to enjoying my football again. When you are out injured or not playing regularly, that is the thing you miss most.
“I feel this is a place I can enjoy my football again.
“As well as the manager I have worked with almost all of the staff. There are actually not many faces I don’t know which is nice! I have worked the coaches and back room team at St Johnstone and the Scotland U21s. So I don’t see it as being a tough transition for me.
“Football is all about the fans. So any little thing we can do to help give something back is important. Therefore I was quite happy to support the 83 squad number. Every club I have been at, I have had a different number. I am easy going in that sense. If it puts a few smiles on people’s faces and helps the club sell a few shirts then it is all good.”
