Mattie Pollock paid tribute to the unity there is in the Aberdeen squad after they completed a sixth straight win by beating Ross County 1-0.
“The togetherness we’ve got is really important for the way things are going at the moment. When you walk out onto the pitch with ten of your best mates, that’s a powerful thing. That extends to the lads on the bench as well, we all know we can trust one another completely.
“We were well prepared for the game. We knew we’d have to win our headers, our second balls against them, and we did the job we needed to do to come away with the win.
“Angus did a great job and Scalesy was superb. He maybe doesn’t get the credit he should because people focus a lot on me and Angus because we came in at the same time, but Scalesy plays a massive part at the back and he’s an unbelievable footballer.
“We had to ride our luck a bit tonight, but that’s the way it goes sometimes. We did the basics well, we kept them at bay for most of the game, we were solid. We’ve done what we needed to do tonight and now we can see how the other results go over the weekend. But if we keep winning games, the league will take care of itself.
“The fans were class again and we need that in games like this, like the St Johnstone one, where you can’t necessarily play your football but where you have to grind it out and get the result over the line. The fans play a big part, they seem to get louder every week!
“We need to keep our feet on the floor, not get carried away, and just keep focused on what we’re doing. This is a massive club and third place is what the club and the fans deserve.”
While Mattie and co were busy keeping County put at one end, it was Duk who proved the matchwinner once again with his 18th goal of the season.
“Duk is a real powerhouse – you should try marking him in training! He’s having a great run at the moment, and he works so hard for the team. He’s unpredictable, which is great for a striker, although I don’t think he knows what he’s going to do sometimes. He’s strong and quick, he’s got a fantastic attitude and to have him in the changing room with you is a real boost.”
Thoughts now turn to next Sunday and the visit of Rangers for the 5,000th game in AFC history. Mattie clearly can’t wait for the game.
“I’m excited about playing Rangers next week because these are the teams that Aberdeen needs to be competing with. We want to put on a performance for the fans, be aggressive and give it a real go. We’ve got good momentum and confidence is a massive thing in football, so it’s something we are really looking forward to.”
