AFC Women manager Scott Booth shared his thoughts after his side found a late winner through Mya Christie to beat Motherwell 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.
“I am really, really happy to get the three points.
“We’ve played so many games like that this season where there’s not a lot in it. We’ve done well in the games and we’ve had opportunities, but we’ve also given away soft goals.
“It’s quite easy in football to talk about deserving something for the sake of it, but I do think our overall performances haven’t really matched the results.
“Week after week individual errors have really cost us. Sometimes you have seasons like that where you get multiple individual errors and they do cost you. Sometimes you get away with them and sometimes you don’t, and you’re able to turn more games into wins and points.
“I think overall today we were pretty much in control of the game. I don’t think they hurt us too much. I felt we were pretty comfortable for the majority of it.
“I still feel we need to be tidier in possession and not give the ball away as easily as we do now. It’s a running theme I keep talking about. I think in the first half we were slightly better at that, but there are still moments, especially in creative areas, where we force passes that get cut out and put us under pressure.
“After we score there is almost ten minutes of injury time, lots of football to play, but I felt we managed that well today and made it difficult for them to build any momentum.
“Bridget and Aimee in midfield alongside the two up top gave us a bit more oomph in the middle of the park. Bridget worked really hard, a few things didn’t quite come off for her, but she wants it and she’s a really good team player. Aimee is the same.
“In games like these, 50/50 games, such fine margins, you just need something a little bit extra. I was really pleased for Mya. She’s taken a wee knock his week, but she’s still came on and gave us real energy down that side. I like that she puts balls into the box and asks questions. She’s not dallying on the ball, she’s just saying let’s see what we can get.
“Credit to the players, they done well.
“We have to back it up next week 100%. These are the games we need to win, and turn into points. Hamilton are fighting for their lives, it will be as hard, if not harder than today.”
