Peter Leven was thrilled by Aberdeen’s 6-2 win over Livingston, but said there was still more to come from the side.

“It was a good performance. We could have scored more, we could still do things better with the ball, but overall, I’m happy.

“I don’t know if anyone saw that coming, that result, the way it played out. I actually came in and thought it was going to be a tight game today, but then I looked at the pitch and I thought there could be mistakes here. In the end, actually it was a cracking bit of entertainment.

“The conditions were difficult, but I thought we started really well. Some great combination play, some good goals, and set plays were our Achilles heel. I thought we bounced back really well, and I’m so pleased with the six goals.

“We’ve worked on our mentality. There’s good footballers in there, and you’ve seen that today, some of the goals are fantastic. I went with the two wingers, two quick wingers and the combinations, with Mitchell and Nicky going on overlaps and underlaps was big for us today.

“I needed my wingers. I asked them before the game in the team meeting to stretch them, because I felt this was a game that would suit them. They’re quick, direct, and then obviously Kevin with his movement in the box, with midfielders arriving in the box, and it worked today.

“I thought they were brilliant, they’re quick, direct, and that’s what Kevin Nisbet needs. Kenan came in and justified his inclusion. Great performance from him, and he scored from a set play. He was in the position where we asked him to be, but again, positive, young, fearless, quick, direct. It was good to see.

“Mitchel was excellent front-footed, energy, and then obviously his end product was really good as well. I’m pleased for him. It’s his jersey to lose now.

“Topi was back to his best. He’s probably needed a game like that, needed the goals, and he was absolutely bouncing when he came in afterwards. He’s a young kid again, a lot to learn still. I said to him, ‘Well done, but you could have scored three!’ I just want that extra demand on players to never settle for what we’ve got. I want more.

“I think the intensity has gone up. I demand a lot from the players, but also give them that freedom to go and play and express themselves. I think you could see that today.”
