AFC Women manager Scott Booth was pleased with his sides performance that earned them a place in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup on Sunday afternoon thanks to a 4-0 victory at Falkirk after a bruising few weeks for his side.
“I think we got exactly what we wanted today. We wanted to keep a clean sheet, we wanted to score some good goals, and obviously we wanted to get through to the next round of the cup. I am delighted with that. Hopefully we have got a bit of confidence back in the team after a difficult few weeks.
“It has been a tough run. You go from playing the teams at the top of the league, and when it is hard to gain any sort of momentum in those games, it becomes difficult to dictate play or work on the things you want to work on because your back is against the wall all the time.
“That then has an effect when you go into a game where you really need to win and want to control the game and play the way you want to play. It has been a challenging period, so it was good today to control the game, control possession, and feel good about ourselves. It could have been more as well if we had taken the chances.
“A few of the girls played in unfamiliar positions, and individuals stood up. The back line, even though they were not asked too many defensive questions, did really well as a back three. The wing backs in the first half were influential, with Abi and particularly Mya standing out.
“We got some penetration from Aimee in the 10 position, and Hannah gave us experience up top, holding the ball in and giving us more of a backbone today.
“Getting Erin Carrol on for the last 15 was always my intention if the game went well.
“I enjoy giving young players opportunities. If I get the chance to do it, I want to give them that opportunity, because the quicker you expose a player with potential to first-team football, the quicker they will kick on once they have had a taste of it.
“I would like a home game in the next round, but more importantly I would like a draw that gives us the opportunity to get into the following round. Fingers crossed we get that.”
