“We’re always positive, there’s no despondency here. We had a very disappointing last game here at Pittodrie but I would rather focus on the game before it at Kilmarnock when we were excellent. It was a poor performance there’s no denying that so we’re got to redeem ourselves tomorrow. The opposition tend to bring the best out in us and we’ve had some fine games against them this season.

“Motherwell team are the second best team in the country but we’ve put them out the Cup in the past two seasons and the last two games here have been draws so we just need to try and edge it tomorrow as I hope we will do.

“There will be changes probably. One of the changes will be influenced by the fact that Joe Shaughnessey is fit after breaking his nose against Kilmarnock so that will impact our selection. We could make other changes as well but we’ve got a nucleus of a team, the changes won’t be wholesale because I was really pleased with the performance against Kilmarnock.

“You can’t predict what’s going to happen in any game. If every game is a draw and teams are only picking up one point and if you get a couple of three point results it makes a huge difference. You either want the top teams to keep winning or all the teams about you to keep drawing. Then all you have to do is get the three points. You can see how close it is and it will remain like that till the last day and I think we’ll be right in the mix when it comes to the last couple of fixtures. I really am optimistic about us being in the top six. It’s all we are focussed on.”
