Aberdeen U18s 12-0 Camelon Juniors U18s Scottish FA Youth Cup Second Round Cormack Park Friday 23 October, 7pm KO

Aberdeen U18’s cruised into the third round of the Scottish FA Youth Cup courtesy of an emphatic 12-0 triumph over Camelon Juniors U18’s. In torrential rain at Cormack Park, the young Dons took control of the tie from the offset and led 5-0 at the interval – with Bradley Chikomo netting a first-half hat-trick, and Aaron Cummings and James Jarvie also on target. Camelon had to play the second half with 10 men following the dismissal of Joshua Dooley on the stroke of half-time, and the Reds were in no mood to let up. Kai Gauld was on the scoresheet on five occasions, while fellow substitutes Ethan Benson and Charlie Crane also found the net in a comprehensive victory.

Report: The Dons began on the front foot in rainswept conditions, and took the lead from the first corner of the game just three minutes in. The ball was worked to Cummings on the edge of the box, with the Dons skipper letting fly into Jamie Black’s bottom left-hand corner. Sam McLean was denied a goal after a fine run inside from the right flank moments later, with his effort well blocked by the legs of Black. It was only a matter of time before the Reds doubled their advantage however, with Black initially making a fine save to thwart Jarvie’s header, but Chikomo was alert to bundle the ball over the line from point-blank range on seven minutes. Chikomo was denied his second goal four minutes later, with Black making another good save with his feet to turn the ball around the post.

The forward did double his tally on 24 minutes though, when Frankie Cowie’s delivery from the right was knocked back across goal by Heath Duncan, to tee up Chikomo for a composed first-time finish into the bottom corner. Having been denied earlier in the match, Jarvie got in on the goalscoring act four minutes later when he nodded home a Cummings delivery from the left-hand side. Chikomo was denied his hat-trick by Black a minute later following a slide-rule pass by Paddy Wilson, but there was to be no stopping him on 31 minutes. Cummings was the architect with a lovely one-two with Wilson, before the captain unselfishly laid the ball on a plate for Chikomo to tap into the empty net. With a comfortable lead established, Aberdeen took the opportunity to rotate their side with a triple change just after the half-hour mark, with McLean, Joel Okhuoya and Heath Duncan making way for Gauld, Benson and Matthew Tomkins.

Camelon’s task was made even harder on the stroke of half-time when Dooley, who had been booked seven minutes prior, was shown a second yellow card for dissent. Half-time: Aberdeen U18s 5-0 Camelon U18s The Reds completed their quota of substitutions at the break, with Crane and Fynn Henderson introduced in place of Jarvie and Max Pocklington. It took just five minutes for them to get back on the goalscoring trail, with Benson released down the left channel before striding into the box and tucking a neat finish into the far corner to make it six. Gauld got his first goal of the night on 54 minutes when he struck a low effort from the edge of the box, with the wet ball slipping through the hands of the unfortunate Black. He quickly added his second just three minutes later when he quickly dispatched a free-kick into the net to catch the Camelon defence off guard. The only blemish on the Dons’ evening came on 61 minutes when Chikomo was forced off injured, which meant the two sides played the remainder of the match with 10 players apiece given the Reds had used all of their substitutes.

Black made a fine save at his near post to turn Wilson’s effort behind on 69 minutes, as the Dons continued to pursue more goals. It was to be Gauld who was next on the scoresheet on 79 minutes, with a cushioned sidefoot finish to complete his hat-trick. Just two minutes later Gauld applied an even better finish to take the scoreline into double figures, with a crisp first-time strike from 25 yards finding the top corner following Benson’s cutback.

There was still time for Gauld to add a fifth with a lobbed finish on 89 minutes, before Crane completed the scoring in stoppage time when he tucked home a cutback from Benson. Full-time: Aberdeen U18s 12-0 Camelon U18s
