In this weeks RedMatchday Magazine:
Player Interview: Mark Reynolds
“Everyone is taking it hard. The Ross County defeat was a major blow. The way the league has panned out this season, even when we have had a bad run of games, we have always kept ourselves in contact with the pack and even now we are not that far away. It is getting to the stage where it is so frustrating because every week it feels like we are saying if we get a win we would be back in amongst it but we keep letting everyone down.
“There are a number of things that are not going right but that is down to the players on the pitch. The preparation is fine, everything else at the club is fine. I know a lot has been made about the pitch we have been playing on, but it is the same for both teams. We have generally been playing well in games but not scoring when we have been on top and teams are making us pay for that.
“If there were problems within the club, cracks would start to appear very quickly in the spirit that binds everyone together. But that is still there. Everyone is still 100% behind the manager and everyone is still very much together and wanting to push on.
“Everything is in place that needs to be for this club to be successful. The results have not been going for us but it is just a bit of tinkering that needs doing. It does not need a massive overhaul or massive changes, and so it comes back to the players. Aberdeen is a club where you are going to be playing under pressure. Personally I enjoy that pressure but if you don’t, then it is not the type of club you want to be at because there are big expectations and you have to live up to them. I think up until now we have not done that. We need to change that urgently.
U20 player Interview: Michael Rose
“I am a big Aberdeen fan. My dad used to take me to all the games. I remember coming along as a young boy and watching Russell Anderson play! My dad always speaks about the Gothenburg team so I know all about the history and as fan it is a great feeling to be part of the club. As a fan you do have a different approach to things than a player who has maybe come in from somewhere else. That is not to say you try harder than them but you feel the pain when things are not going well.
“I played for Glendale up until U8s and then came into the AFC Youth Academy and played for the 8s, 10s, 11s and 12s and then I got released by the club. Even although I was only 12 years old I thought that was it, my chances of making it as a professional footballer were gone. I went back and played for Lewis United Boys Club and as I got older I just enjoyed played the game alongside my friends.
“I had three good seasons there and then out of the blue my dad came home and said to me that Aberdeen were interested in me again. I could not believe it! I was so happy. I played a couple of trial games and then I was signed up again.
“It was a major blow when at 12 years old you think your dream is over but in a strange way it worked out for the best because as I say I was able to then just go out and enjoy my football without any pressure on me.
“When I got told the Dons were interested in me again the hunger kicked in; I was desperate to get back in and I was not going to be rejected again. I had remained friends with a number of the boys from the Youth Academy with whom I had played with when I was younger including Cammy and Scott Ferries and I wanted to be part of the team again.
Former Players Interview / Letter From America by Ian Thomson: Darren Mackie
“The plans here at the club are to try to grow one step at a time and get into the MLS however long it takes, It’s a hugely ambitious organisation.”
“David (Robertson) told me everything about the club and just sold me on the idea,” Mackie said. “All the young guys are obviously looking up to me with the level I’ve played at, so I’m just trying to pass on my knowledge. They can come to me any time and ask any sort of advice and I’ll help them any way I can.”
