There is a special League Cup edition of RedMatchday on Tuesday night which is packed with stories, facts, stats and photos from previous League Cup campaigns.
There are also the usual features plus interviews and columns from:
Derek McInnes
“To coin a phrase, that was then, this is now. The League Cup win is on the honours board and is in the past. We cannot live off that victory, we must go out and win new ones, look to add further honours to the club’s history, and so we begin a new journey tonight, starting in the same place as the other 15 teams who are in the competition at this stage, all of them looking at fighting their way through to a Hampden final.
“Where we maybe have a slight advantage is that we know what it is like to win this competition, we have had a taste of it and I know that we want it again. Winning a first trophy is always so important for any team, because it gives you the confidence that you can do it. But the difference between good teams and those who become a little bit more is that with the winning of one trophy comes an appetite, a hunger to go on and add more in the future. That is the challenge for us now, to go and do something special by winning again and again.”
There is an interview with Derek's opposite number, Livingston boss John McGlynn
How did you feel when the draw brought Livingston a tie with cup holders Aberdeen John? “We know that it is going to be a very tough game, the holders away from home. I have gone up there in the past and won, when I was with Raith Rovers, and we went back up there the following year and we lost – but I think you lose more than you win up there!
“I think that Derek McInnes has done well since going there, obviously winning their first trophy in a long time in winning the League Cup last year was important. Both he and Tony Docherty have assembled a very good side up there and I have got great admiration for the management team and for Aberdeen Football Club. “We know that we are going to be up against it but that is the challenge, everyone will fancy Aberdeen and that takes the pressure off us, so we will be playing without any pressure and we hope that we can cause them a few problems. You go there to win the football match, but we understand that we need to be at our very best.”
Andrew Considine
“I know people are frustrated because of the way we finished last year and the way we have started but I have absolute faith in the boys that we will get back on track over the next couple of weeks and have a very good season.
“The next three games are massive, no doubt about that. If we can go on a good run up until the next international break then it will set us up nicely for the winter months, a period we did very well last season.”
Russell Anderson
“The fact we are the holders means nothing this evening, we have to do it all again and look to beat Livingston on the Pittodrie pitch. They are a good side too, there is no question of that. They are in a very tough division with Rangers, Hearts and Hibs amongst others and I’m sure that level of competition will only act to help them improve as a team. There is plenty of experience in their side as well, plenty of players who have played in the top division at various times, so they are going to be tough opponents.
“I can remember really well the night last year when Alloa Athletic came here and we had to endure a really nervous evening before we came through the game and won on penalties. That was a really tough night, but we know now that it was the first step on the way to winning the cup.” How to Buy
