Reaching deep into the community to provide support and opportunity through sport

Having been around since 1903, AFC is entrenched in the region’s fabric. As a football club, we touch the lives of most citizens in some shape or form. Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce conducted a socio economic impact study into the club in 2015 which revealed that it contributes over £11 million to the regional economy every year and supports almost 300 jobs. The construction of the community sports campus, football academy and stadium would results in over 900 jobs and a further £7.9million of expenditure in the North-east.

But our reach goes even further through the work of AFC Community Trust) which now delivers around 70,000 community participations a year across North-east Scotland with people aged from 3 – 103!

Since 2014, AFC Community Trust has been a stand-alone registered charity using the high profile and facilities associated with the club to provide support and opportunity to change lives for the better.

Through our Scottish FA Football Development Officers, we enhance local grassroots football, and now facilitate all Primary School Football League activity in Aberdeen, and in areas of Aberdeenshire. A significant focus of the work undertaken by AFC Community Trust has been to develop and increase wider community engagement well beyond 'just' football. In partnership with other like-minded groups and organisations, we have programmes addressing dementia, inactivity, mental and physical health and fitness, obesity, social exclusion, social deprivation, and more.

With the opportunity for brand new, purpose-built multi-sport and community facilities, adjacent to a new stadium, AFC Community Trust could further widen its reach and undertake even more activities with local people and third sector organisations which will have real, positive impacts on lives and on communities.
