Aberdeen Women host Motherwell this Sunday afternoon in the final game before the split in the SWPL1. Due to the adverse weather conditions, the game will be played behind closed doors at Cormack Park, kick-off is 4.10pm.
The Dons go into the game off the back of last weekend’s agonising 4-3 defeat to Partick Thistle. Meanwhile Sunday’s opponents know that a victory on the weekend could see them finish in the top six if results elsewhere go their way.
Gavin Levey previewed the game with RedTV.
“Everyone is looking forward to it. We have braved the cold weather this week and we have been able to train indoors. Hopefully we get the breaks that we have been looking for over the last few weeks.
“The girls were really down after the game last weekend. Everything was going to plan at 2-0. We had to block out a lot of noise at the weekend to get ourselves in front. The fact that we scored three goals, one was something that we have been working towards, we can take confidence from that. We came in on Tuesday evening and we are all ready to go again.
“I think the split is really exciting for the league. If you look at the top half of the league in particular, you see Glasgow City, Rangers and Celtic battling it out and they have to play each other twice again, it is an exciting format. It is exactly the same for us. Between now and the end of the season, my aim has always been to get them in the best possible place by the end of the season, ready to go again next year. We are excited. Prior to the Hibs game the other week, I said to the girls that the season really begins for us now and lets see where it can take us. We started off well and things were going to plan at the weekend, we went down to 10 players with the red card but we managed to score three goals so I think we are in for an exciting game this Sunday.”
Mya Christie on Motherwell
After scoring in last weeks defeat to Partick Thistle, Mya Christie also looked ahead to the game this Sunday:
“We always go in with confidence and we have to believe in ourselves. We have taken a lot of confidence from the Hibs game, we managed to stick that out in put in a good performance. We were unfortunate on Sunday but we managed to get our goals and hopefully we can do the same on Sunday.
“I haven’t scored in a long time so it was good to score on Sunday. When I moved further up the pitch, I know I have the defenders for pace. It was a good ball through and I was able to slot it round the keeper. I quite like changing position during the game! You get a feel for the game and it showed that I can move up the pitch and put in a good performance.
“I have been playing at left back since I went away with the Scotland U19s. I didn’t expect to play there but since I have been playing there I have a lot more confidence and I have gained a lot more experience playing there.
“Since we are a young team, we have brought a lot of energy to the game and we are all working hard. We are fighting and putting in good performances to impress. We are all fighting to play and we all want to play.”
