Marius Müller was the penalty saving hero for Aberdeen thanks to a late change in his methodology.
“I prepared a lot for penalties in my life, and never saved one. Well, I saved a few but the quota was not so high, so today I said to the goalkeeper coach, ‘I go with my feeling’, and luckily in the end, it was three times right. In life you learn, and maybe I learned out of this penalty shootout to go every time with my feeling!”
Having got the win, Marius stressed that after coming through a difficult week, this has to be the start of something better for the Dons.
“Last week was not good for us against Kilmarnock. After it we had a tough week with hard work and after that, it feels good every time you win a game. I'm very happy for the boys, I'm very happy for the gaffer, because he does amazing work with us, and sometimes it's quite hard to read some things that are said about it in social media. I'm just happy that we showed another face to us.
“Getting criticism is part of the game, it's part of the business, but when you read it every day and then in training you see how much effort everyone brings in, how hard we work then also, it's very disappointing.
“When you work so hard from Monday to Friday and you don't bring it on the pitch on Saturday, then we're not happy with this either. I'm happy that we bring it all today. But now the game is gone, next game is on Tuesday, so we have to prepare very well, recover very well and go on.
“We have to take the self-confidence out of the 60 minutes when we fight with 10 men, because we had the big, big chances in the extra time. If we do this with 10, then we can do it with 11 for sure.”
Marius also revealed that he might have a coming career in motivational speaking.
“After the game, I have to say I interrupted the manager’s speech because it was for me very important to say thank you to the guys, because it was a tough situation for Dan, he had to make a foul after a mistake happened. The gaffer said afterwards it was amazing, my speech, so hopefully we carry on like this!”
