Aberdeen registered a fifth straight win in beating Kilmarnock 2-0 this afternoon, but it was the three points rather than reaching third place in the table that enthused manager Barry Robson.
“I didn’t think about league positions when I took over and I’m still not thinking about them. What we always need to do is look at the next game. The players can enjoy the win tonight, then we move on to Ross County.
“I’ve been in this game a long time, I know there’s always something around the corner that can change things, so you can take nothing for granted and you have to be the best you possibly can be every day. Do that and we’ll give ourselves a chance. Take your foot off the gas and who knows? We’ve achieved nothing yet. We’ll see what we’ve done when they add the points up at the end of the season.
“I’m just delighted we’ve collected three more points. It was a difficult game in blustery conditions. They are a team that’s well organised and are drilled to make it hard for you and they did that. But credit to our players, they gave us everything again today.
“There was a period for about 25 minutes in the second half where you really saw what we look like as a team. We were fast and aggressive, we looked electric at times, but we need to do that for longer periods because we are hard to deal with when we’re like that. At other times, it was a difficult afternoon and we had to try and manage things.
“But that’s four clean sheets in five games now. You ask the best coaches in the world and they will tell you, you cannot be a good attacking team until you’re a good defensive team. It’s a fact. We were that today and that helped us get the win.”
Duk caught the eye once again with two goals, the first after just 15 seconds, and Robson hopes that he can maintain his current rich vein of form through to season’s end.
“Duk enjoys the way we play, it suits him, he’s in good form, he’s got great pace and hopefully he can maintain that run of form for the rest of the season. We have to keep feeding him chances. He’s a good, humble kid and that is so important, he’s a great boy to work with.”
