AFCCT Volunteers | Bob & Kathleen's Story

Aberdeen FC Community Trust volunteers Bob & Kathleen McHaffie have been involved with AFCCT for over 3 years now after first coming along to the Still Game programme in 2012.

Since then the couple have been coming along to a variety of activities including Health Walks, Active Reminiscence, Technogym and AFC in the Park.

As a result of their attendance at the Health Walks, Bob and Kathleen have been through their Walk Leaders Training and both are now qualified Walk Leaders as well as becoming 'Dementia Friends' after their Technogym training.

AFCCT Health Walks run every Tuesday morning and now Bob and Kathleen plan, deliver and evaluate many of the walks around the city.

The Health Walks have between 20 – 30 participants each week who take part in a slow paced walk aimed to increase physical activity and encourage social interaction for over 65 year olds.

Not only do Bob and Kathleen volunteer with AFCCT, they both help with light physical exercise to music sessions at Kingswood Day Care Centre and chair based exercise sessions at Froghall Community Centre, combined they are engaging with over 40 people on a weekly basis.

Kathleen commented. “We have the mobility to help at these sessions so it’s great to help the ones who struggle. The reaction from some of the residents when their favourite song comes on during the session just makes everything so worthwhile”.
