Saturday’s match with Motherwell was designated as the first ever AFC Community Trust Day!
In what has been a busy few years for Aberdeen FC’s partner charity it has been rare to find a moment for reflection or to catch your breath! However last week was slightly different for AFCCT with a focal point at the end of it to look forward to.
In the run up to the match there were a few guests visiting some of the AFCCT programmes…
Dons legend Willie Miller came along to the Football Memories sessions to share some stories about his career.
Anthony O’Connor joined the Footy Tea crew while they had their dinner after their weekly football session.
Mark Reynolds came along on the Red Start tour and even let the pupils have a seat in the first team dressing room!
On Wednesday AFCCT held a Junior Matchday Club celebration event where Ryan Jack went along to visit some participants.
On Friday it was announced that Paralympians Neil and Lora Fachie MBE were the latest ambassadors to join the Club’s partner charity. The inspirational duo have represented their country with distinction at the highest level as Paralympian cyclists winning countless medals in the process.
On Matchday AFCCT enjoyed an increased profile throughout the stadium with various events and activities taking place to spread the community spirit and feel-good factor generated throughout Pittodrie.
Over 100 children enjoyed an hour of coaching at Aberdeen Sports Village before making their way to Pittodrie for the game at Junior Matchday Club.
There was also a Walking Football Festival at Aberdeen Sports Village for fans to have a kick of the ball before watching the Dons in action.
Gaitherin provided some live music for fans in the RDS Concourse.
Austin Wood was the VIP Community Guest getting the opportunity to go on our stadium tour, meet the players and go behind the scenes at Pittodrie on matchday, he even got to have a kick-about on the pitch with Angus the Bull before kick-off…
A handful of volunteers were selected as flag bearers for the afternoon.
Some young volunteers received their 200-hour Saltire awards at half-time during the match. Neil and Lora Fachie made the half-time draw.
Colony Park girls took part in an activity on the pitch at half-time while participants from the dementia friends programme had fun with the AFCCT parachute.
