“I thought we started the game quite well. From kick off we got after them and put some pressure on them early on. That was always our intension. We planned on doing that. We had three good results last week and we were desperate to keep that going. We did not want to waste the first ten or fifteen minutes getting into the game and then seeing where we were. We wanted to start strongly and that set the tempo for the whole game.
“For the majority of the first half we did dominate. They had a spell at the end when we dropped off a bit but after the penalty went in we looked comfortable enough, second half especially when we could have scored a couple more. I probably should have had at least a hat-trick. But it was nice to come away from home and get a 4-0 win which puts us second in the league again.
“For the penalty incident I have clipped the ball over the top and James has collided with the keeper as they both got to the ball at the same time. As the ball has spun away his has been clipped so at the time I thought it was a penalty.
“James is a great lad who works very hard in training at his game. It is great the way he can turn and drop his shoulder to get away from people. His movement is very good.
“I think he nutmegged two players in a row. You have to be good to be able to go that. His delivery of the ball is also very good. You can see the confidence he has. He is a good player. He can handle the physical side of the game as well. He just gets up and gets on with it.
“He is a different type of player to what we have had. He can spot a pass so I know that if I make a run the likelihood is that he has seen it before you have. That allows me to make more runs.
“He has that bit of vision and class that few players have. I think he will go on and have a very good career.
“James has put over a great ball for Ash to score from the corner. It was a really good finish. If I had finished like our centre half’s I could have had five today!
“We have a squad now. You look at the bench and any one of those players could be in the starting XI. We have not really had that over the past few seasons. If we had three of four injuries we tended to be a little bit stretched and we had to rely on younger lads to step who did not have that experience. It certainly keeps everyone on their toes and that is important. The worst thing you can have is complacency with players thinking they are guaranteed a game.
“It has been a very good last few weeks so it was nice to top it off with a win this afternoon.
“It is always nice to score a few goals and I as I say I could have had a few more. The most important thing though was the win.
“It is always much better and much more enjoyable going off on an international break after a good result. The boys will now get a few days to relax and recover a bit and then we can look forward to the rest of the month. A very busy month.”
