The sport of football was placed into proper perspective last weekend when the news broke that one of the Club’s best known and bravest supporters had lost his long battle against cancer at the ridiculously young age of 26.

In his short life, Cammy Smith was a tremendous inspiration to so many, having twice fought, and seemingly beaten, leukaemia. His dogged determination touched thousands of hearts and the level and warmth of the tributes that poured in on his passing, from many who did not know him personally, simply emphasises how highly regarded a young man he was.

The #weareallcammysmith campaign was responsible for undertaking a substantial amount of work in highlighting the acute need for bone marrow donors and that is something all those involved should be extremely proud of as there is no doubt whatsoever that additional profile will help to save lives.

Following consultation with Cammy’s family, there will be a minute’s applause at the 26th minute of Saturday’s match while close members of the family will be in attendance as guests of the Club.

The thoughts of everyone connected with Aberdeen Football Club are, of course with Cammy’s wife Steph, step-daughter Lily and the rest of his family at this extremely sad time.
