A team of AFC supporters faced an Aberdeen FC Former Players side led by Russell Anderson on Saturday 3rd September in the inaugural Aberdeen FC Community Trust Challenge Match at Harlaw Park in Inverurie.   The match, organised by Steve Tosh and Russell Anderson, was held in aid of the Inverurie and Ballater Flood Appeals as well as Aberdeen FC’s partner charity AFCCT to help further their work in the community.   Manager of the Red Army team Joe Harper said “We’re known as a family club, who look after our own people. It was a fun, family day, a lot of people came along, great weather and a great cause. I thoroughly enjoyed it.”   Craig Brown, who managed the Former Players on the day followed by saying “The day couldn’t have been better, the weather was kind to us, there was a nice crowd, the whole day was superb.”   Chief Executive of AFCCT Ally Prockter said “It’s been a fantastic effort, this is the first time we’ve tried to get a Former Players match organised, it’s been a huge rush, a lot of work put in by a large number of people but the turnout has been absolutely fantastic!”   With a final score of 13-4 to the Former Players it may not be exactly what the Red Army were hoping for, although the crowd of over 1,000 fans certainly enjoyed the afternoon.   Thank you to everyone who came along and showed their support, a brilliant day was had by all.   Also a special thank you to APEX Tubulars, for their generous sponsorship of the day and Inverurie Locos for kindly allowing the use of Harlaw Park.
