“It has been in the pipeline for a number of years now.
“It is always nice to have teams after you. The manager here has made no secret about trying to get me in the past. The interest was very flattering and it is good to finally get the deal done.
“At this stage in my career, I think it is the right move for both parties.
“I just can’t wait to get started now.
“I had made my mind up that I wanted to come to Pittodrie. When Alex Neil arrived at Preston he asked me to give it a bit more time but eventually we decided it was best for me to come here and play.
“It is what was needed. I want to go back out and enjoy my football again on the pitch. I know this is the place I can go and do that.
“I know I have scored a few goals against Aberdeen in the past! The Scottish Cup semi-final in 2014 was a good day for me personally but now I want to have those days with this club.
“Hopefully Aberdeen can have another good campaign and some cup runs. After last season, it would be nice to go a stage further and get our hands on some silverware.
“My main aim, target, is just to enjoy my football again and score goals. If I do that then ultimately it will help the team.
“I am really looking forward to it. Over the summer I have seen the signings coming in. They are signings that excite me and made we want to come here.
“I have played with a good few of the boys before with the Scotland U21s.
“I am looking forward to Saturday. A trip to Dingwall is always tough. I know all the venues so it is good to have a feel for what is coming. It should be a smooth transition and I looking forward to being on the pitch again.
“I don’t think I have changed as a player. I am a bit more experienced and I have more games under my belt. I would like to have played a bit more than I did in England but that is in the past. As I say it is just about getting back out there and enjoying my football again and helping the team.”
