“I thought it was a complete contrast to Tuesday where we showed a lot of our attacking threat. I thought that the team that played on Tuesday was deserving of starting again even though it was a different opponent.
“It was always a bit of a risk playing so many attacking players in that initial period.
“I don't think we got our game going with any real rhythm in the first half, I thought when we did move the ball we brought pace to the game and moved them about we carried that threat, but we didn't get into enough goal scoring opportunity areas.
“There are reasons for that.
“I think our opponent had a good game plan. They had two banks of four with MacLean dropping in. He carried a threat on the counter attack and we never looked after the ball enough at times. So we knew we had to try and overcome that and bring a bit more quality to the game.
“Unfortunately, even with the changes I thought we never really got into good enough areas to suggest we could score one goal never mind the five we scored the other night so it was a bit frustrating.
“I think you've got to credit St Johnstone they've come up here with a good game plan. They've denied us space and they've worked hard to keep us away from goal. It's not just about us, there is an opponent there, and I thought St Johnstone played well today.
“I think we deserved our point, but we recognise that Joe Lewis' save has managed to get us a point towards the death with his save.
It was a very stop as Wotherspoon is very dangerous from those areas. Thankfully we have a brilliant keeper this season and his concentration was good enough to keep it out.
“With formation changes we tried to get it going and tried to get something generated but we just didn't bring enough thought at times and enough quality.
“With games against St Johnstone it can be a bit stop start with a lot of fouls and I think we had to try and create more tempo to our game today.
“As I say we needed to bring a bit more thought to it and show a bit more composure at times.
“I thought we allowed ourselves to get a bit too frustrated in the game, a bit too stop start for my liking and instead of keeping our heads and trying to keep doing what was right, I thought we didn't quite do that enough.
“The positive is that we get a clean sheet without being at our best. We get a point against a decent opponent in St Johnstone.
“To beat St Johnstone we had to be better than we were today.
“We tried to make changes to be positive. We wanted to give them something else to think about. We put Jayden on to give their defenders something to think about.
“Being honest we could still be playing now without bringing the quality to game that we needed. But I am not too down about it.
“I think you can ask any manager and they will tell you that St Johnstone will give you a tough game. It is not just an Aberdeen thing.
“We have now had three 90 minutes of football and it shows that there is not a lot between the teams and I have always felt that. Over the course of a season we have been ahead (of them in the league) by winning more points but in a head to head game they always make it difficult.
“We have shown a capability to beat them, but when we have beaten they we have shown a bit more quality than we did today.
“We are disappointed because we expect to win now at home regardless of the opponent. We have only lost to Celtic in the league and in Europe. When we don’t win it has been a disappointing afternoon but we pick ourselves up and go again on Tuesday.
“If we win that game, we will be a point behind second. I think by the end of December it will give an indication of where teams are going to be (in the league) so it is a significant month and hopefully we can gather enough points so we are happy with our performance over the first half of the season.
“We aim to be better on Tuesday.”
“We aim to be better on Tuesday.”
