Scott Anderson took time to reflect on a great result for his development side in the SPFL Trust Trophy away to Brora Rangers on Wednesday night. A late equaliser, coupled with a winning penalty, both courtesy of Alfie Bavidge, was enough to seal progression to the next round.

“I am really pleased for the players. They kept going until the end. We created a good few opportunities in the first half, and again, it was the same in the second, but we just couldn’t seem to get the ball in the back of the net. Eventually, we did, and I think we deserved to. It was a decent game. Brora are a good side, so it was a really positive night, in terms of coming up here, going one nil down, getting the equaliser, and then showing calmness to get the win on penalties. Brora will be a team that finishes in the top two or top three places in the Highland League this season. We’ve been coming up every season for the last three or four seasons, so we knew how tough a task it would be. It allows us to follow the result up with another big test against Peterhead in the next round. As I said, I am just so pleased for them, they really deserved that tonight.

“It’s just what Alfie Bavidge does (scoring goals). He puts the ball in the back of the net. I think Alfie had a couple of opportunities that he might have done better with, so it’s great that he managed to get his goal for us and then scored his penalty, but I also think tonight showed a really strong team performance.

“We had a few boys tonight that were involved that won’t be involved with the Under 18s, so then we have some of the younger ones that will come back into the team. We started the season strongly against Queens Park, obviously a good result away from home, so we will hopefully take that with us. We are looking forward to the game against Dundee United on Tuesday.”

Alfie Bavidge also shared his thoughts on a successful night for the young striker.

“I thought it was a great game, a really successful night for us all. I think we deserved to come out with the win in the end, and I’m looking forward to the next round already. It will be a great test against League 2 opposition. It will be good to see some old faces that I used to play with. It is definitely something I am looking forward to. It’s been a great preseason for me. Any minutes I can get, I will take them. I want to be as fit as possible so I can be at my best. Games like these I look forward to. It is not often I get to play 90 minutes! I am glad I made the most of it. I enjoy playing with these guys a lot. We had a great season last year, but just came up short. I love playing in this side; I have been mates with these guys for a long time, so it is just great.”
