The 34-year-old midfielder has found first-team opportunities limited in recent months and was keen to return home with his family.
Head Coach Stephen Robinson said: “Sivert approached me last week to explain that he wanted to go back to Norway, where he had a very good opportunity combining both playing and eventually coaching. It was clear in these discussions this was something he actively wished to pursue.
“He has only started one match since November, so this move gives him the chance to play more regularly over the next few years, before transitioning into coaching at a club close to home.
“Even in my short time at Aberdeen, Sivert demonstrated that he is an outstanding professional who has conducted himself impeccably. We thank him for his contribution and wish him, and his family, all the very best for the future.
“As Sivert could also provide cover in a back three if required, our intention is to add a short-term defensive reinforcement.”
Sivert joined the Dons from Brann under former manager Jimmy Thelin and went on to make 56 appearances, scoring twice.
Reflecting on his departure, Sivert said: “I’m incredibly grateful for my time here at Aberdeen. From day one myself and my family have felt welcomed and we’ve truly loved being part of this Club but now it’s time for a new chapter. This move presents a great opportunity for my family and me to return home to Norway, with a deal that provides both security and a clear pathway into the next stage of my career.
“The start we made last season, and of course being part of the group that won the Scottish Cup, was amazing. The scenes in May are something my family and I will never forget.
“This season has been disappointing, but I am confident that, with Stephen leading the team, we will finish strongly and build momentum again for next season.
“I want to wish the Club, and everyone involved behind the scenes, all the very best for the future. Togetherness is a powerful thing, especially in tough times, and I truly believe the good times are ahead. Thank you.”
Everyone at Aberdeen FC would like to thank Sivert for his effort and contribution during his time at Pittodrie and offer him every success in the next chapter of his career.
