“It is never a nice dressing room when you get beat. The performance throughout the whole team wasn’t good enough. We didn’t create enough chances and we didn’t defend well enough as a team. To be fair they have scored a fantastic goal but we need to be able to play a lot better and dominate the game.
“We needed a bit more urgency higher up the park. They let us have a lot of time on the ball at the back but sometimes we have to go a bit more direct to the strikers and have that fighting spirit as well further up the pitch and we didn’t have that.
“The conditions weren’t great and we needed to find a different way to play, we can’t always play nice and attractive football. Sometimes it has to go up to the striker and we have to go and fight for it and win second balls. We didn’t do that. We always wanted to play the nice and attractive ball but we didn’t create enough chances earlier on in the game, we’ve only had one shot on target and so have they. For us, it wasn’t good enough. St Mirren defended really well and made it very hard for us.
“We have got to make sure we have the same mentality as we do when we play the likes of Rangers, Celtic, Hibs and Hearts as we do when we turn up against St Mirren away from home. If you have the mentality going into those games thinking it is going to be easy then it shows – the performances drop, people’s quality drops as well.
“You are looking for that spark and we didn’t have that.
“What we say in the dressing room we keep in there. Everyone is disappointed after that result. It is not nice. It is the second time we have come here and not won the game. Sometimes you have to dig deep, if you don’t win the game then you take a 0-0 when you are playing sloppy.
“For the fans it is a six hour round trip and to watch that for 90 minutes, it wasn’t good enough throughout the whole team but the one good thing about football is we have a game in four days and now we have to make sure we bounce back and go again.”
