Scott Booth was frustrated with the result for his Aberdeen Women side on Wednesday night in Montrose but the Dons manager was keen to emphasise that it was a performance that deserved much more.
“I was generally pleased with the way that the team played. When you come here, you have to match their aggression, they play a direct game. So you’re always being asked the question because they are trying to get over the top of you constantly, and it’s hard for the game to settle.
“I felt that we dealt with their physicality. I think we were able to play our game at times. I thought in the first half, we got the ball into the striker’s feet. We were able to support from there. And I felt like we deserved to go in the lead.
“What happened was when we made any mistake at all, it was capitalised on. It was just one of those games.
“Because for the majority, I think we controlled possession. We were the team that I think in the second half, for a long spell, controlled possession. It was just that final ten minutes where I felt they got back into our half of the pitch. We’ve got to take this one on the chin. There was nothing in the game whatsoever really in terms of chances.
“We’ve got understand that the game on Sunday is now our most important game, and we need to make sure that we go into the game on Sunday with positivity. I think we came into the game tonight, and we were really up for it. It just didn’t work out the way that we wanted. Hopefully on Sunday the players can take the three points and build on the performance tonight, which I thought was in the main actually very good.
“When we’ve won our games, we’ve pretty much deserved to win the games. But I feel like, we are trying to play a type of football that we want to see more of because it’s enjoyable when you’re watching it. Those games that we win and we’re maybe not doing it for long periods, we have to understand that it is still a building process. We have to demand more and want more all the time.
“I think tonight was one of those where I think the players gave absolutely everything, they couldn’t have given any more. It’s a three-game week, so they now need to rest up and make sure that they recoup for Sunday.
“How we’ve got to look at it is we’re six points ahead of Montrose at the moment, and we have to maintain that gap. That’s how we’ve got to look at it. Obviously, tonight didn’t go our way. I don’t think it was a fair result, but football’s not fair. I think we all realise that. Sometimes you get a little bit of the rub of the green, which I think they did because they scored so late on.
“I’ve never thought that we’re out of it. It is too many games coming in too short a time to think that you’re out of it. A couple of games and it can swing a completely different way.
“We are still in a good position. We don’t need to panic. We just need to to play the football that we can play and make sure that we turn that football and those performances into points. The first chance we get to do that is Sunday.”
