Aberdeen Women manager Scott Booth shared his thoughts at full-time after his side ended 2025 with a defeat at home at the hands of Rangers.

“I am really pleased with them today. I thought they played really well. They were aggressive, they had energy, they worked incredibly hard, and they were organised. They were good in possession in spells where they had to be brave and play with the ball.

“Again, the things that we talk about every week are losing daft goals. Until we make the mistake for the first goal, we look comfortable and I was happy with them before that happened. After that, we were still good in the game, but Rangers are always going to get chances. They are a really good team with excellent players who are quick, athletic, and strong.

“We lose the second goal where Rangers are able to play through us. But throughout the whole game, they did not really go through us apart from that moment. I think the third goal comes from a corner where Katie is pushed on the goal line. I do not know how many times we have seen referees blow the whistle when our goalkeeper is pushed, but this time nothing happens and the ball goes straight in from the corner.

“Some of the goals we are losing are actually very difficult to coach. If you think about that third goal, it goes directly in from a corner. Overall, I said to the players that this is the level of performance we need when we play teams around us. This is how we play, and they proved they can play that way. There is absolutely no reason they cannot bring that level into the most important games against teams around us.

“The individual errors are happening every week. We are shooting ourselves in the foot. It is difficult to coach because these mistakes come from players who, for the majority of the game, play really well, but one moment costs us. When you go behind against a really good side, you know you are not going to get many chances.

“For the second goal, we should defend it better. We spoke about that Rangers movement where a player comes short and another runs in behind, and we need to adapt to that. We did not. The third goal again comes from a corner. If you take the goals out of the game, I think we gave as good as we got for the majority of it.

“I have seen what these players can do when they really put the fight in. It is frustrating when they do not, because their level drops significantly. It may come down to the age of the side, with an average age of around 20, which brings inconsistency. The frustrating thing is that the players know the level they can reach, but it is about doing it in the games where it really matters.

“I am thinking about the January now now, that is something I am already thinking about. I have players being offered and names coming through agents that I will need to look at. So while there is a break, there will not be much of a break for me.

“I will still have my Christmas dinner, but I will be working on things, that’s for sure.”
