Scott Booth shared his thoughts at full-time after Aberdeen Women lost 4-0 to Celtic.

“It is hard to see past the fact that from the first attack, a corner, we lose a goal straight away. Not marking properly in the penalty area, and not for the first time. We have worked so much on it.

“We keep giving teams easy opportunities, easy goals. The second goal comes from a throw in again. We do not mark properly and do our jobs.

“Because we lose a goal so early, it knocks the stuffing out of you a bit. Obviously, you are playing against a really strong wind and I think it is hard to get out. Celtic put us completely under pressure, but I felt that we stuck with it and worked really hard. We actually matched them up and played player for player today. That is a tough way to play, but I felt like in the second half we were on the front foot a lot more.

“We had the wind in the second half and we were able to put them under a lot more pressure. We also stopped them getting many chances in the second half as well. Overall, we are disappointed because we do not want to lose the game, but I think we are more disappointed in the nature of the first two goals than anything else.

“For the rest of the game, it showed that we can compete against the top teams when we are aggressive and when we do our jobs. We showed up for the majority of the game. I actually felt like we played some good football at times. The game was quite open and I genuinely think we passed the ball well and took responsibility in areas where we needed to be brave.

“Even in the first half, when we were against the wind, at times we were able to move the ball well and get out of their press. But if you lose cheap goals, it costs you games. We can take confidence from the second half going into what will probably be a similar kind of game next week.

“Next week will be as difficult, if not more difficult. If we can make sure that we are not conceding silly and easy goals, goals that if we just defend properly we can avoid, then we can compete and make it difficult for these top teams. That is what we are looking forward to next week. We will work hard again in training and hopefully not make the same mistakes with easy goals.

The winter break will give us a chance to reset. We have had a really tough run and mentally and physically the players are fatigued. I think the break is coming at a good time so we can get the players rested and go again, because we have some really important games straight after the break.”
