This morning Gordon Strachan named his Scotland squad for the upcoming World Cup Qualifier against Croatia. Dons midfielder Ryan Jack was named in that squad for the first time and after hearing the news he spoke to RedTV.

“I got a phone call last night from our manager about 5.00pm saying that I had been selected for the squad. I was very surprised but absolutely delighted. I have had a lot of tweets and texts today which has been nice. I have been involved with the Scotland set up since I played for the school boy side when I was 16 and like everyone I dreamt one day that I would get the chance to play for my country but I did not think that chance would come this early.

“As soon as I heard last night it is all I have been thinking about. You can go on holiday at anytime but maybe this chance will never come again. I know a few of the boys in the squad. I have played with both Stuart Armstrong and Tony Watt who were with me at U21 level. It is good that so many young players are getting a chance to show what they can do.

“This is a great moment for myself and my family but also for everyone at the club and for everyone involved with the AFC Youth Academy. They are the guys who spent many long hours over many years teaching me the game and then you have also got all my other coaches who have helped me since I have been at Pittodrie as a professional. If I do win my first cap it will be a great moment for all my coaches who have got me to where I am.”
