Reserve Reaction | Paul Sheerin on the win over Celtic

“It’s always nice to come and get a win against Celtic or Rangers. “I thought we made heavy weather of it in the end, but we started the game brilliantly. “For the first fifteen minutes we were on the front foot, pressed well, created chances and again the issues are in the final third when we get into certain areas. Connor McLennan several times did brilliant to get into the final third with his strength and ability and it’s just that last bit of composure to play the right pass or get a shot off on goal.

“As much as I feel we deserved the win and probably dominated the bulk of the game, we just need to do more to work the goalkeeper.

“I’ve not seen it back yet (goal mouth scramble) and I’ll see it on the way back on the bus, but we were sat in the dugout jumping up and down saying somebody just put it in. I thought in that spell if we’d managed to score it would have settled us down, but we gave them too much encouragement to get back into the game after that first fifteen minutes.

“Still well worthy of their win.

“I know they went down to ten men, but we dominated for the main.

“I thought it was a bit naïve for the young boy to throw himself in (the penalty), but Bruce uses his body well in those situations and I think the fact he gets his body between ball and man helps. You’d argue if it was in your box you’d be questioning it, but I do think he’s made contact and going by the laws of the game, you’ve got to give a penalty.

“I said to Scott (Anderson) who was your top performers? I thought Morgan Brown was up there and Connor too. There were plenty of good performances. I thought Miko at right back, when it’s not naturally his position, he’s becoming more and more confident in that area of the pitch and I thought he was great.

“There were of plenty positives in the game, plenty good individual performances and it’s just knitting it together in that final third.”

The Dons’ next match in their Reserve Cup Group is against Falkirk on Monday the 15th October:

“It’s a change of manager since we last played them (Falkirk) so maybe it’s weighing on their mind and I’m sure there will be changes with Ray MacKinnon being in there and it depends on what sort of squad they play. Hopefully we can go a run in the cup and reach more cup finals as we did last year and see if we can go to that next stage. That’s our aim certainly in the group.”
