Points shared in Ayrshire as Dons denied late penalty
Kilmarnock 1 | Heffernan (40)
Aberdeen 1 | Fallon (7)
Clydesdale Bank SPL | Rugby Park | Full Time | Att: 4,390
Aberdeen earned a point at Rugby Park this afternoon, but were unlucky not to head back up the road with all three. Rory Fallon returned to the starting line-up and fired Aberdeen ahead in the 7th minute with a wonderful volley that gave Cammy Bell no chance. The Dons then created several chances to increase their lead and McGinn was unlucky when he smashed the ball off the post following a great run.
Aberdeen were to rue those missed chances when Heffernan levelled five minutes from the break as the Dons were caught out by a long ball. The second half was fairly even, but Aberdeen felt aggrieved late on when Bell appeared to lose control of the ball and lunge at McGinn as he tried to retrieve the situation. Everyone waited for the Euan Norris to point at the spot, but he showed McGinn a yellow card for simulation. Quite an incredible decision and despite late pressure Aberdeen couldn’t grab the winner.
Aberdeen | Langfield, Shaughnessy, Naysmith (Robertson 67′), Hughes, Reynolds, Jack (Pawlett 82′), Rae, McGinn, Milsom (Hayes 70′), Fallon.
