Dons open their SPFL campaign with a win
Aberdeen 2 | Hayes 20′, Flood 53′
Kilmarnock 1 | Boyd 64′
SPFL Premiership | 3.00pm KO | Pittodrie Stadium | Att: 13.149 | FT
Aberdeen opened their SPFL campaign with a deserved 2-1 victory over Kilmarnock thanks to goals from Jonny Hayes and Willo Flood this afternoon at Pittodrie. Aberdeen deservedly went ahead on 20 mines. Samson made a good save from Zola but Hayes was on hand to squeeze the ball in from a tight angle. A defender on the line appeared to get the last touch but referee Crawford officially gave the goal to Hayes. Aberdeen continued to dominate and Willo Food, who was brilliant this afternoon and deservedly, won the man of the match award, headed home a fine cross from the left by Hayes. The Dons should have been out of sight but Magennis missed two great chances and Shaughnessy hit the bar. Kris Boyd pulled on back for the Ayrshire side and the substitute very nearly grabbed a second. In truth though the Dons were far more comfortable than the scoreline suggested and did more than enough to suggest this is no false dawn.
