RedMatchday contains 84 pages and only costs only £3. In it are interviews with the following players this week. Well worth a read:
Scott Brown
…“Everyone is very passionate about their football in the Midlands. You have a lot of big clubs and there are a lot of local rivalries.
…“It was a dream come true, to become a footballer with the team you supported (Wolves). But then, a couple of years later, I walked into work as a professional footballer and was told I was being released. You no longer have a job and no one wants you. The hardest thing was telling my Mum and Dad. One minute you are in football and the next minute you are not. Your dreams are shattered. Coming back from that was so hard.
…“It was part time and we only trained twice a week, but the club meant everything to those players and they showed so much commitment and passion. I got smashed a few times but I learnt a lot about the game. It was a real education.
…“I have experienced being promoted through the play-offs, I lost in a final and I lost in the semi-final. Getting beat in the semi-final is probably the worst experience – that season I played every game and it was a horrible feeling.
…“Every game you go into (in Scotland), you know it is going to be a game of football. You play in League One and League Two games in England and it is all about getting the ball in behind and playing a lot of territory football. A lot of the goals come from set plays. Here, everyone likes to try and play football. You know it is not just going to be a fight for 90 minutes.
…“The club is everything I expected and more. Every day when you come into training the standard is very high. You have to be at your best every day. There is no slacking off. If people want to say I am doing well then that is up to them. I just take each game as it comes and try and do enough to get selected for the next game. That’s all any of us can do”.
Derek McInnes
“It has also been pleasing that we’re on a decent run at present despite missing a fair amount of experience in Russell Anderson, Willo Flood and Barry Robson, and that gives everyone a lot of encouragement. The youngsters who have come in have a fair amount of games under their belts now and I’m delighted with the consistency they’ve been demonstrating in our recent games.
“Looking back at 2014, I think it’ll go down as a good year in the history of our Club. From my staff and my own perspective, while we are working for such a good club we just want to leave our mark on it and hopefully there will be good years ahead as well as the one that is just about to finish. Having won a trophy, this group of players will obviously always be remembered but I’m looking for them to be remembered for more than just winning one.”
Andrew Considine
“We have bounced back well from the disappointment at Dens. We played well that day and have put in good performances now against Hamilton and Dundee United. We came strong at this time last year and hopefully we can have another good festive and New Year period. We don’t play Celtic till the end of February so if we could get a good string of results before then, it would stand us in good stead for what we want to achieve this season.
“There is a great spirit in the dressing room. The boys are really in it together. It has been like that for a couple of seasons now. I think the big difference is that the boys believe in each other. That is very important if we want to be successful. We had a cracking side when we got to the UEFA Cup last 32 under Jimmy Calderwood. But being a part of this – and playing week in, week out – has probably been better, especially seeing the likes of Ryan Jack and Peter Pawlett coming on.”
Russell Anderson
“The big thing is that it puts us right back into the thick of things at the top, in the pack just behind Celtic. There’s only two points covering second to fifth so we are in great shape as we come into Christmas and the New Year which is just where we wanted to be.
“Adam will get plenty of credit for his goals again and rightly so because he has had a fantastic time since he came to Pittodrie last January. But Adam would be the first to tell you that he only gets the chances to score because of the quality of the players around him and I thought some of our attacking football in recent games has been very impressive.
“Equally, the fact that we are keeping plenty of clean sheets at present starts with the work the likes of Adam and David do in defending from the front. All the players worked extremely hard and defended very against United.
“As I said, hopefully we will start to see the very best of the team now, just as we did from this stage last season when we really started to kick on. There’s a great opportunity to have another very successful season but that will only come from carrying on working hard and treating each game with proper respect as we play them.”
