RedMatchday Magazine has once again been awarded the Programme of the Year title. Sponsored by Programme Monthly & Football Collectable, The Dons programme won Best Programme in the Scottish Premiership. The Scottish Programme of the Year Awards is in its 43nd season and Aberdeen have now won the title for the top division in Scotland for the last 15 years in a row. Hearts were 2nd whilst Celtic and Motherwell were joint 3rd.

The judges at Programme Monthly said:

“The men from Pittodrie once again stand apart from the rest. Red Matchday is little changed from last season but then that is enough to keep it ahead of the rivals. The covers may be a little more bland that before but internally, features such as Golden Years, The Heritage Trust articles and Picture This are a joy to read, add the strong coverage of current goings on and contributions from guest writers and it still is as near perfect package as you can hope for. It remains ahead of the pack in Scotland.”

To be put in for the Celtic game was a big moment too. To have been selected for such a big game was very pleasing. I really only thought I would play one or two games, I did not think the manager would play me against Celtic. That gave me a massive confidence boost.

“I really enjoyed the game. I loved every minute of it. They were on top in the first 20 minutes but we managed to get through that. It is my job to keep the shape of the team in front of the defence and keep everything tight. It was important to keep my discipline with my position. You can’t go chasing the game or Celtic will hurt you.

“Once we got the goals we then came more into it, which made it easier for me. We had a lot more of the ball and I thought we played well. I must also mention the fans. It was the best atmosphere I have played in and probably the best atmosphere I have ever seen at Pittodrie. They played a big part in the win, especially the way they helped us through the first 20 minutes when they were on top.

“The manger’s instructions to me were simple – keep close to Kenny! He said Kenny would get me through the game. I get on very well with him. I sit close to Kenny in the changing room and, as we are both from Glasgow, we have a lot in common. I am always speaking to him. He is a very, very good player. His left foot is frightening! Any role he has been asked to do this season, whether it be in a more defensive midfield position or an attacking one, he has played very well. He can play anywhere on the pitch”.

We have to show the same desire and hunger that we have done all season to go and win the game. Everyone has to do their best for the cause between now and the final day of the season, staff, players and supporters. We are all looking for the same thing and, if we are all together, we give ourselves the best possible chance of achieving our ambitions.

Tuesday night’s win sets today up as another huge afternoon for us and a game we are desperate to win. Kilmarnock have had 11 days since their last game at home to Ross County and we know they will come here and fight for everything because of where they are in the league at the moment. We’ve played well against them in both games so far this season and have had two good wins, but we know how hard we will need to work to make it a hat-trick of victories this afternoon. Three more points would take us a big step closer to what we want to achieve this season.

“I have the experience of winning promotion with Reading. That was a great season for me. The one thing I learned from that situation was the importance of results at this stage of the campaign. Quite often at Reading, we would go a goal up and then scrap it out. We were not the prettiest of teams but we got the wins we needed to survive at the top.

“We know there will be ups and downs during games between now and the end of the season, but we all just need to stick together. We have a really good changing room and we also have a great support. You saw that on Tuesday night. We are all in this together.
