Our feature interview is with Tomas Cerny looks back at his career. Joe Lewis is his column also pays tribute to the Czech keeper:
“I’m very pleased that he is staying involved with the club and helping the Youth Academy. He will make a brilliant coach. I know he is going to try and qualify to be a teacher as well, and I would want my son taught by him, he’s that sort of guy. If you ask anyone around the club what Tomas is like or what they think of him, then they would give him a glowing reference. He is the sort of guy you want to keep within the football club if you can, although we won’t miss his music or his clothing. Let’s just say Tomas is very different, but in a good way!
“Tomas has been brilliant, as hard working a trainer as you could come across. He could not have been more helpful to me as a goalkeeper. I have learned a lot from him, from his work ethic and from his different style. He was slightly unorthodox compared with what I am used to in England and Scotland. He is a bit different to a lot of goalkeepers I have trained with, so have I have managed to take some bits from him.
“He knew he was towards the end of his career so wanted to come here and pass on as much of his knowledge as he could and be as helpful as he could and he was. I am very grateful for all the support he gave me during his time here.”
