The manager’s view
from PA Sport
Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes said: “I think both teams possibly have a case for saying they could have won the game. They had a couple of chances on the counter-attack.
“Jamie’s made a couple of saves, one in the first half and one in the second half. I felt we let our standards drop for a 20-minute period in the first half.
“From my point of view, apart from that 20-minute period, I was happy. The second half performance showed the tenacity of the team and determination of the team.
“When we play at pace and tempo we are difficult to handle. I thought at times Ross County were hanging in. We hit the woodwork three times and we had a few opportunities.”
He added: “It was a hard fought point, a point was at least we deserved.”
Ross County manager Derek Adams was delighted with his side’s display in a 1-1 draw with League Cup winners Aberdeen but felt they deserved more from the game.
Melvin De Leeuw opened the scoring with a glancing header as the home side took a firm grip on proceedings but Aberdeen hit back after the break and Adam Rooney equalised in the 76th minute with a firmly struck shot after a goal-mouth melee.
Adams said: “I thought we were excellent tonight from start to finish. We passed the ball well and caused Aberdeen a lot of trouble. It was a terrific performance from us.”
The County boss had nothing but praise for Aberdeen goalkeeper Jamie Langfield, who pulled off a string of impressive saves throughout the 90 minutes.
“He was terrific tonight, he was outstanding,” said Adams. “He kept them in the game, he was man of the match. Overall Langfield was outstanding, he had a lot more work to do than Mark Brown, who also had a good game.”
He added: “We’re just disappointed not to have won the game but we’ve obviously moved a place ahead in the league tonight and closed the gap on a number of teams.”
