In Saturday’s RedMatchday magazine :
There is a feature interview with new signing Ryan Christie.
“There is a lot of great attacking quality at the club already so it’s not like the side is really missing anything. I see myself as quite a creative player so hopefully I can come in and play that through ball that starts attacks. That’s where I see myself playing and that’s the kind of player I am, being the link between defence and attack”.
There are the usual interviews with Derek McInnes and Ryan Jack and we also spoke to Niall McGinn about THAT goal!
There is an interview with the youngest full time player at Pittodrie Chris Antoniazzi, who is already making a big impression.
The Scotland youth international was originally part of the AFC Youth Academy before moving to Celtic. However, the attacking midfielder decided that his future lay at Pittodrie after all and the 16-year-old signed a professional contract with Aberdeen. Part of Scott Anderson’s successful U17 side, as well as Paul Sheerin's U20 squad this season, Chris has also trained with the first team and recently travelled with them to Dubai as part of his development and came on as a substitute in the friendly game there against Bunyodkor.
“I will be honest and say it was quite daunting, though I had been with the first team squad a few times over Christmas so that helped. The boys went out of their way to make me feel comfortable when I was away. The more senior ones would chat to me and told me to relax and be myself. I hope I did ok”.
The player Q&A this week is with Robbie Mutch and the fans Q&A is with Ally Begg.
There are articles from our usual columnists – Richard Gordon, Chris Crighton, George Rutherford plus Kevin Stirling's in depth history section and there is a special feature on the Kingsford Project.
Our US correspondent Ian Thomson pays tribute to Earl Foreman.
Laces were being tied and studs being screwed in when a respected figure appeared in the dressing room wearing a garish, bright yellow sports jacket. It was Earl Foreman, the DC-based real estate lawyer who received the franchise rights to Washington’s newest sports team. Foreman wished the players good luck before throwing out an incentive – anyone scoring two goals in this decisive contest would earn the jacket off his back.
American soccer lost a great pioneer on January 23rd when Foreman, 92, died of natural causes. He had owned a stake in the Philadelphia Eagles NFL team and was a minority owner of the Baltimore Bullets basketball franchise when he was tempted to join an unfamiliar sport. The Whips marked his first foray into the world’s game, although it was the indoor version that ultimately provided Foreman’s greatest sporting accomplishment.
