Partick Preview | Andrew Considine

Andrew Considine, who has had a great start to the season, sat down and spoke to RedMatchday magazine this afternoon: “Whoever has had to play in defence, whether it be Shay, Ash and Mark and myself or whether Anthony is playing – he has done a great shift since coming into the side, or whether Graeme is at left back, we have still managed to work well together as a defensive unit. During the pre-season training we worked hard on our defending and have done a few things differently on the training field to hopefully make us better defensively. “Everyone at the back looks really confident.

“Everyone at the back looks really confident. Everyone’s game looks to be where it need to be.

“I have been asked to play left back again which is absolutely fine. I am quite happy to player there, I am quite happy at centre half, I will play wherever the manager wants to me to do a job.

“Joe Lewis has helped the defence. He has been sensational since he arrived at the club. Big Joe is constantly taking to the back four and he is very commanding of his box which is what every defender wants. He has been outstanding and he is a good lad in the dressing room. An important player to have on and off the park.

“He has already made numerous saves for us. The one that stick out was the penalty save over in Latvia. I would like to think we would still have won the game but it would certainly have made it a tough second half.

“As defenders we take great pride in our defending. if it is going to end 0-0 we have to do our job to stop the goals going in, or at least do our part as it is a team game defending. If we can keep a clean sheet we will win more games than we lose. If you think back two seasons ago, there were a lot of clean sheets and a lot of games we won 1-0. If we keep the back door shut there is every chance of nicking one.

“And the goals will come. Seeing the quality of the forward players we have, it is only a matter of time. In training there are goals going in left right and centre. Not just from the forwards. It is important to remember that we all need to chip in with goals. We have to try and do our bit when we are up for corners or free kicks.”
