Partick Post Match | Niall McGinn

Niall McGinn spoke to RedTV after the game on Saturday: “We made it a bit nervous for ourselves at the end which we did not like but we got over the line, got our first three points and that is the most important thing. We controlled the game for long periods and maybe should have been further ahead. “We know we need to take more of our chances and not invite pressure like we did at the end. “You have to give Partick credit for coming back into the game. They are a decent side and it was a very good strike by Erskine. “I am delighted to get the win so we can now kick on.

“I am delighted to get the win so we can now kick on. I was also delighted to get the first goal.

“We were working on a few things in training. I was practising my free kicks during the week. Peter was also practicing his and he felt confident enough to take the first one and was a bit unlucky, the keeper has made a good save. When the second one came along I was pleased I took it! I think that will be me on free kick’s for another week anyway!

“I have had a few free kick’s this season. I have hit the target and missed it so it was nice to see the ball hitting the back of the net which in the end helped the team get three points.

“We wanted to start on the front foot and keep that going the whole game. A good example of that was the way Miles was able to score the second goal after great work by Shinnie in winning the ball.

“Myself and Miles scored on Saturday. You have Wes and Jayden who can also play in the forward areas as well as Adam. So there are players here who can score goals. It is important we are not just relying on Adam to score all the goals like we have done in previous seasons. We all have to contribute. The more who do so, the better our chances of having a good season.

“Although we lost the late goal which was disappointing because we wanted another clean sheet, we have been defending well and that gives us confidence. Big Joe has come in and done very well. He is a good talker as well as being a good shot stopper. If you can keep clean sheets you always have a chance of winning games.

“We have shown over the last couple of season, more so here at Pittodrie, that we are capable of causing Celtic problems. They are playing very well at the moment so we are under no illusions on how difficult it will be but we have to go down there with confidence. It is a tough game but one we are looking forward to.

“I feel each season the manager has been here we have improved each year. Our aim is to do that again this season and keep the consistency going on the pitch. Starting with two wins and a draw is an ok start. It is long season and now we need to kick on.”
