Niall McGinn scored his 49th Aberdeen goal on Saturday, just one behind Adam Rooney who hit the 50 mark. It was his 5th goal in the SPFL this season and Niall has also now had 11 assists in the League after crossing for Adam’s goal. (Niall McGinn stats click here) After the game he spoke to RedTV:
“I thought the boys were excellent, especially in the first half. We came out very strongly and it could easily have been three or four at half time.
“From the first minute until the 90th minute I thought the boys were top class.
“Four different goal scorers and some nice football. An all-round good performance.
“We showed that we are capable of playing on this surface. I have no problem with plastic pitch. Me personally I quite enjoy playing on these types of surfaces.
“It was nice to open the scoring.
“I made a run into the box and Kenny has found me with a great ball. Fortunately for me I was in the right place at the right time. That got us off to a good start and that is always important in games like this away from home. I said recently in the programme interview that I wanted to score more goals and I have now scored in my last three starts, so long may that continue.
“I was delighted with the assist as well. Helping Adam to get his 50th goal. Adam has been unbelievable since he came in. Me being a wide player and for Jonny as well, we know if we get the ball in the right areas he will score. I was very pleased to see him getting on the end of my cross. It was a great feeling.
“The third goal was massive as we were able to calm things down and really kill the game off.
“We actually just worked on the kick off before the game. We worked on getting the ball wide and then hopefully in the box. I have flicked it on to Kenny has put over a great ball for Jonny. It is nice when you work on things and then they come off during the game.
“The most important thing though was the three points.
“There is always an incentive to win every game. We are playing for a big club. We want to keep on improving. We are back at the stage where we are playing well and the confidence is high. We have had a number of clean sheets as well which is important. We have two home games coming up and we want to get the full points from those matches. It won’t be easy but as I say we are full of confidence and we are playing at home.
“We just want to keep building on our good performances and see where it takes us.
“I would like to thank the fans for travelling down and spending their hard earned money to come down a week before Christmas to support us. The players really appreciate it. Keep up the support and hopefully we can keep the performances coming.”
