Adam Rooney scored his 50th goal for the Dons at Rugby Park. He achieved the target in only his 91st game for the club. 33 other players have scored more than fifty competitive goals for the club since it was formed in 1903 but only 12 players have reached the milestone in fewer games. Most of them were only in couple of games less.
After the match Adam spoke to RedTV and as ever he was very modest about his achievement:
“Forty-five penalties and five tap-ins later!
“It was a great performance and to top it off I managed to get a goal, my 50th. Someone reminded me last week that I was close. So it was nice to get to that target and it was nice to beat Niall to 50 as he is now only one away! I think he has probably set up at least 35 of my goals so he is certainly ahead when it comes to assists!
“I just hope there’s another 50 goals to come.
“The main thing was to get a win and I’m happier about that.
“It was a good day for me but as I say the most important thing was that it was a very good win.
“We started the game well.
“We have started the last couple of games well, ever since Ross County. We have started the last couple of games a lot better than we did that game. It is something we have been working on, making sure we get off to a good start, playing at a good tempo. This is because when we do that we know we can cause teams a lot of problems. You could see that at Rugby Park, it could easily have been more than two at half time.
“Then at the start of the second half we got the third. I just wish I was standing where Jonny was for the tap in! From the kick off it was a very well worked goal. Niall got a great touch and Kenny has put over a superb cross. It is the kind of start you want in the second half and it made the game a lot easier to manage from that point on.
“It was another good performance with some good goals as well.
“We now have two home games between Christmas and New Year against Inverness CT and Partick Thistle. They will be tough matches but we are playing well and our home form has been very decent this year. I was unaware that I have not scored against Partick at Pittodrie so that is something for me to aim to do! I managed to get one against Hearts last week which I don’t usually do! Whoever we play against at the moment I am feeling confident and if we keep creating chances then I am sure I will get on the end of things.
“Finally I would like to wish all the fans a Merry Christmas. Please keep supporting us over the festive period and we will try to keep getting the wins and keep our good run of late going.”
