Aberdeen FC can confirm this afternoon they have agreed deals with two more of the club’s top young players. Goalkeeper Danny Rogers and defender Scott McKenna have put pen to paper on new contracts.

Recently youngsters Craig Storie and Daniel Harvie also signed extended deals.

Manager Derek McInnes said “It is great news for the club that both lads have committed their futures to Aberdeen. The challenge for both Danny and Scott now is to establish themselves in the first team. We feel that both have the chance to do so.”

Both players are now contracted to the club until the summer of 2018.

Danny Rogers grew up in Ireland and was one of a number of players spotted there by then AFC Youth Scout Colin Grant. The 21 year old signed his first contract with Aberdeen in July 2011 and played regularly for the Dons' U19 side as it was then. In December 2013, he joined Airdrieonians on loan for a month and at the start of the 2014/15 season the keeper joined Dumbarton on a six month loan deal which was then extended until the end of the season. He impressed greatly, winning a number of player of the season awards after making 36 appearances and having nine shutouts.

At the start of season 2015/16, Danny joined Falkirk on loan. The goalkeeper has again impressed and currently the Bairns sit in second spot in the Championship. So far, Danny has made 35 appearances and has posted 14 clean sheets. His fine form was rewarded when he was named the Ladbrokes Championship Player of the Month for December.

In September 2014, Danny was called up to the Republic of Ireland U21s for the first time and made his debut against Norway. He has been the number one choice during their current UEFA U21 Championship Qualifying Group games.

Scott McKenna is from Kirriemuir and has been with Aberdeen since he was 11. Back then, he was a left sided midfielder. He then moved to left-back before playing as a central defender and it is at centre-half where the 19 year old looks to have a big future ahead of him. He began his professional career in 2013/14, and straight away Scott was training with the first team squad.

Last season Scott was part of Paul Sheerin’s U20 side which won the SPFL Development League before he joined Ayr United on loan in February 2015 and helped them avoid relegation. He then picked up a long term injury but played his first game of the season in the Development League on November 3rd in the 4-1 win over Dundee. The centre -half then made his first team debut on February 6th in the 4-3 win over St Johnstone.

Scott has been the skipper of the U20s for the past two seasons and has also captained his country – leading Scotland out at the elite qualifying stages of the U19 European Championships in the summer of 2014.
