Kenny McLean today trained with the Scotland senior side for the first time on Monday. The Dons midfielder was named in Gordon Strachan's Scotland squad for the friendly on Thursday against Czech Republic. Before heading off to the Scotland training camp just outside Glasgow, Kenny spoke to RedTV:
“Obviously it means a lot to me and my family. It is a great moment for anyone to get called up by their country.
“So I am delighted to be part of the squad this week.
“It makes you want to work even harder at your game because you want to stay there. Hopefully if I get an opportunity on Thursday night I will take it.
“As a footballer you need to be ambitious.
“Every young player wants to be called up. I have been given the privilege and I am very thankful for it. I just need to make the most of the opportunity.
“It is naturally going to boost your confidence. To be called up means people are watching what you are doing. As I say it makes you want to work harder at your game because you want a regular place in the squad. I will work hard with Aberdeen until the end of the season and if I do well I might get the chance to be involved in the squad again at the end of the season.
“There are a few Aberdeen boys who were mentioned as possible selections for Scotland. I am sure it will also make them work harder to get themselves back involved in the international fold.
“Being involved in the first Scotland game means I will be back at Pittodrie on Friday and I will still get a little break, get a few days to rest the legs before we start preparing for the Hamilton match.”
