“I’ve no doubt Adam is a good player.

“We’ve always monitored his situation. When it became clear there was an opportunity and we were able to speak to him I had then had to try and convince him Aberdeen was the place to come. I was always though comfortable we were in with a chance. He made it pretty clear this was the place he wanted to come and I think we’ve made a good signing.

“It was important we did it within the parameters of the club and we’re looking forward to working with a boy, who has proved himself up here before, but it’s important that he proves that all again and that’s his challenge, to be part of a good Aberdeen team.

“I think he has watched the team. He is aware of the level of player we have here, the level of performance we’ve had and he wants to be part of that. He has a chance to play his part, not only this season, but we’ve managed to secure him for two years beyond that which is a good bit of business.

“I think he feels at home here. He had been speaking to Willo and Jonny and the boys were saying positive things about the club. I always felt when speaking to Adam that he was stimulated by coming to the club and it’s important we get that from any player. I felt that enthusiasm from him and as a manger it’s important to hear that.

“Adam goes straight in to the squad for Saturday. He trained this morning and he is part of a squad going down to Motherwell hoping to get back to winning ways.

“It’s another very important game and whenever we’ve had a disappointing result, as we did last week, it’s crucial we show that resilience to come back fighting again and get back to winning ways.

“To do that we will need a strong performance against Motherwell. They beat us here not so long ago so I don’t think there will be any real surprises when we look at each other. We will know their team, they will know ours and we also know we are going to get is a really competitive match. It’s a match that’s very important.

“Everybody is fit and available apart from young Clark Robertson.”
