The Dons are in Premier Sports Cup semi-final action this weekend when we take on Rangers at Hampden Park.
A place in December's final is up for grabs, with the winner of Saturday evening's match set to play either Hearts or Hibernian, who face off on Sunday at Hampden.
How did the sides reach Hampden
Aberdeen started their League Cup campaign back in mid July when they kicked-off their Group A campaign with a 2-0 win away to Brora Rangers. The Dons finished top off their section with subsequent wins over Queen's Park, Queen of the South and Kelty Hearts.
A double from Kevin Nisbet and a debut strike from Mitchy Ntelo gave Aberdeen the win over Dundee at Pittodrie in the last 16. The Dons then overcame Kilmarnock at Rugby Park in a dramatic penalty shoot-out win in the quarter-final to set up Saturday's match with Rangers.
Saturday's opponents entered the tournament at the knockout stages and have overcome St Mirren 5-1 and Celtic 3-0 to progress to the last four.
Stephen Robinson on Saturday's match
“It’s certainly an opportunity. All the pressure will be on Rangers, and the expectation will be on Rangers. We’ve seen many upsets over the years.
“Can we cause one? If we play at the top of our game, which we’ll need to, against what is, for me, a very, very strong Rangers side, then of course we can cause an upset.
“Positivity, playing forward, believing in what we see all the time, believing in each other. And they do. We spoke yesterday, and it’s a brilliant group of boys, a great, great group of boys who want to be successful. No one was hiding away from the fact that the results haven’t been good enough."

League Cup matches at Hampden
Saturday will be the seventh League Cup semi-final meeting between the sides, with the Dons prevailing on four occasions. The first last four clash came in October 1955, the Dons running out 2-1 winners with Graham Leggat and Paddy Buckley scoring for Aberdeen. The last time the sides met at this stage of the competition was in January 2023, with Rangers overcoming the Dons 2-1 after extra-time at Hampden.
Player quotes
“You’ve got a Semi-final against Rangers at Hampden, and you need to put all that to bed and focus on the positives. I think everyone’s good. We’ve got a really good group in there. We’ve got people that don’t really dwell too much on the past. I’m in that kind of role where I need to pick a few people up, and that’s absolutely fine. But I think the mood in the camp is very good."
The thoughts of Kevin Nisbet.
