“It was a very frustrating afternoon.
“We started the game well, created chances, got the goal, but took the foot off the pedal and it was difficult from there on.
“The midfield became very congested and we needed to try and use the wide areas more.
“In any game you are going to have spells when the other team is on top, when the other team has more of the ball but we should have been able to recover from that and then impose ourselves again.
“I didn’t think they created many chances. The goal was a deflection and I think we probably still deserved to win the game, but that means nothing and at the same time it wasn’t good from us.
“We know these are games that we need to be winning.
“I’ve had to be patient to get my chance.
“In the Hamilton game at the start of the season it was just one of those things, I had a bad game.
“It’s a very strong squad and I understand that fully, so when you get the chance you have to do as much as you can. I concentrated today on making sure I did my defensive duties well, making sure I won my headers.
“It’s a lot better squad from when I was here before and you’re happy to get minutes in. You have to get your match fitness up as its different from training every day and not getting the minutes. It’s very important to me to get the minutes under my belt.
“It is a big week for us coming up. We know we need to perform better if we are to get through in the cup. Motherwell are in good form and it will be a very tough game. We need to look at their strengths and make sure we turn up for that one on Thursday. We know we can do much better.
“The game in Scotland hasn’t changed much since I’ve been away, but I think the standard of player has got better. It’s the same style of play really.”
