“The goal was very pleasing. It was one of those instinctive ones. You see the keeper off the line and think just go for it. It is up there as one of my favourite goals.

“We were annoyed we let them back into the game, it was sloppy from us but scoring so quickly afterwards was important. We maybe should have had another to make things more comfortable, we did not want a tense finish and probably should have finished it off earlier.

“The whole team played well. Throughout the team there were a lot of good performances. We just expect that from Joe now, he has been excellent and the back four were excellent as well. As a unit we are looking a lot better. They resorted to a lot of long balls but we were picking up the seconds. Kenny and Ryan did really well with that tonight and it gave our offensive players more freedom to go out and express themselves tonight. James is capable of anything and it was his assist that laid on the goal for me. We also had Jonny and Niall when he came on. As a forward it is great to have that creativity behind you. Again we showed the strength in depth we have in the squad and it will allow us to keep pushing on.

“It is up to us at times to get James into the game more. He is brilliant when he is on the ball and is capable of anything. He gives the other lads a lot of confidence to make the runs because we know he can find us. We have a lot of players who are capable of that. There is a lot of flair in this squad, players who are capable of those moments. There is a lot of flair on the bench waiting for a chance.

“Everyone knows their job in this team and we are building something.

“I was not at Hamilton but the lads said it was a bit of a slower start. So tonight you could see the intent was there from the off. We wanted to get on the front foot from the start. We wanted to go out and play the way we wanted to from the first whistle and I think we did that. They knew they were in for a game straight away.

“We created chances and probably should have had a few more when you look back and reflect on the game, especially with all the possession we had. But we got the two goals and managed the game well. It was the right result.

“The cup final is in the back of everyone’s minds but the two defeats really put the focus on the league campaign. We are annoyed we have dropped points recently and let teams around us get a lead so it is up to us to claw them back and then give ourselves a fighting chance of a good finish later in the season. The cup final is something we are really looking forward to but Inverness away is going to be very tough before that and we have to get the three points up there.”
