A very focussed Kevin Nisbet spoke to RedTV after completing his loan move to the Dons on Saturday. The striker is ready to get going and to get back in amongst the goals.
“I am delighted. As soon as I knew Aberdeen were interested, it was a no brainer to be honest. I did have options down south and with other teams in Scotland but the way the team have started the season, I wanted to get involved.
“Aberdeen is a massive club. It is always a club I have looked to and obviously when you come to Pittodrie it makes an impression on you. I want to be part of that.
“It was all sorted very quickly. It is probably the quickest transfer I have been involved with in my career! It very often gets dragged on to the last day before the transfer window. So I am very pleased everything has been agreed and I can’t wait to get started.
“My first impressions of the Cormack Park, are that the training facilities are top quality. I have played against a few of the boys in the past and I know Nicky Devlin as we were at Ayr United together. I am also good friends with Ross McCrorie. I did message him to ask him a few questions. He did not have one bad word to say about the club.”
Manager Jimmy Thelin has already made a big impression on the new striker.
“I spoke to the gaffer and listened to his philosophy and his plans. I was impressed with his style of play and how he wants football to be played. It suits me. That is also one of the reasons why I chose to come to Aberdeen.
“It is an exciting project to be part of. The first conversations I had with him, first and foremost you could tell he is a great manager but also a really good guy as well, somebody you can approach. You can see that (how good his man-management is).
“His style of play, it is all about creating chances and for me if I get chances I will put the ball in the back of the net.
As well as impressing the Dons manager, Kevin hopes doing well at Pittodrie will help him add to his 11 Scotland caps.
“It is one of the reasons I also came to Aberdeen, to put myself back in the shop window and get another call up to the national team. I have been away for a while and not going to the Euro’s and representing my country was a bit of sickner, due to the injury. Hopefully I can force my way back in. To play for your country is such a big thing.
“My spell in England did not go as well as I planned. It started quite well then picked up some injuries and then there was a change of manager. I then got injured again and it killed my season. Sometimes you just need a new chapter in your life and now I am at Aberdeen.
“It does make you stronger. I have had a lot of doubters over the last year, but that is just football. I just focus on proving people wrong.
“I do believe I can score goals here. It is just about getting off the mark as quickly as possible. Then when you do that, you try and go on a run.”
Kevin, as well has strengthening the striking department, also add some experience to the squad.
“At 27 I feel old! I am probably not even in my prime yet. I just hope I can start scoring goals again this season. I hope my experience can help some of the young players. When you look at boys like Graeme Shinnie and Nicky, there is bags of experience already in the dressing room and if I can add to that, great. I will do my bit to try and help the boys on the park and off the park as well. That is a role I will enjoy.
“I am fit and ready to go. I had a good pre-season which was injury free, that was the most important thing for me. I am ready and can’t wait to get started.
“My message to the fans, you are going to get a goal scorer, if the chances are there. If they are, I will put the ball in the back of the net. I will give it 110% every game and every training session and hopefully excite people.”
