As Aberdeen made it eight wins out of eight under Jimmy Thelin, the Aberdeen boss pronounced himself pleased with the way in which his side dealt with Kilmarnock in the 2-0 win at Pittodrie.

“I’m happy with the performance. We had a good first half. We attacked in different ways, but also played close to each other and helped each other when they attacked to win the second balls and deny them transitions.

“They also had a period when they were really good, so it’s never easy, but I like the team spirit, how they compete together, how they fight for each other and there is the extra touch of Pittodrie and the fans giving us energy. I’m happy with how the atmosphere is growing and everybody understands they have their part to play at Aberdeen.

“We have a good squad and we try to have some depth inside the squad. We have a healthy competition, that keeps a good dressing room, but also it helps to have competition in training sessions so everybody can grow all the time. I think it’s good that we have these different solutions inside the squad now.”

Pape Guèye made it three goals in his last two league games for the Dons, all headers, but as the Manager pointed out, it’s what’s inside the head that counts as much as the outside.

“Even if you’re big, you have to be there, you have to read the game, you have to be in the right position inside the box and he’s really clever there to score the goals. Pape has good strength in the air which is good at both ends of the pitch, not just for scoring goals like today, but how he defends on set-plays is really good.”

The atmosphere at Pittodrie was excellent once more and Thelin was quick to praise the 16,000-plus crowd for playing their part in the win.

“I like the atmosphere here from day one. It’s something you always have to keep alive. Everybody has to always try to think in the right direction. We’re on a journey together, so we have to keep pushing each other and stay positive and believe in things together.”
