Aberdeen boss Barry Robson’s first thought was for the Red Army after his. side posted a superb 3-1 win at Ibrox this afternoon, the Dons’ third win in a week.

“I’m delighted for the fans, they deserve it. They follow us in numbers, they sell out all the away games, we’ve got record season ticket sales at Pittodrie and since I’ve been manager, the backing has been amazing.”

The Dons were inexhaustible, swarming all over Rangers throughout the game, skipper Graeme Shinnie leading the charge.

“Graeme was outstanding that’s why he’s the captain, that’s why we were desperate to get him back in the summer, the board were great with backing me to do that. It’s not just today, it’s every game, he’s my leader and he leads by example on the pitch. But the team as a whole showed real energy and real quality.

“We had a very detailed pre-season and you can start to see the benefits of that for the ones that were with us right throughout that from the start. The boys that arrived later are steadily catching up, and today, we looked sharp.

“We tried to frustrate Rangers for the first 20, 25 minutes and then grow into the game from there. Structurally, we were very good and that was the basis for the performance. The speed that we play at at times will trouble teams and the spirit among the players is brilliant. It was a great afternoon for the football club, but we’ll not be getting carried away. We’re starting to think about Thursday night already.”
