Aberdeen Women captain Hannah Stewart took the time the time to reflect on our recent league outing to Petershill Park, and to look towards our upcoming trip back to Springburn this weekend, this time in the Sky Sports Cup.

“I think this week, analysis has been key.

“It sounds strange after you come off the back of a 5–0 loss, but I don’t think it was a 5–0 game.

“At times we were really organised, really compact, and made it difficult for Glasgow City. We frustrated them, and we need to take those positives into next weekend.

“It’s another week, another game, so who knows what can happen. It’s not all negatives, it’s not all doom and gloom, because at times we played really well.

“We kept the ball well, we weren’t camped on the edge of our box, and we took the game to them. We lost focus at key moments and conceded goals at silly times. If we can learn from those mistakes and take the positives, who knows?

“When you play against a top side, if you switch off even once, they’ll punish you. That’s what happened last week.

“The beauty of having such a young team is that everyone wants to learn and get better, and that gives us a fighting chance next weekend.

“They’ve got a European game coming up after our match, but they’re a good squad and whoever’s on the pitch will be strong. We can’t look at that too much, we just need to focus on ourselves, stick to what we do well, and take the game to them again.

“People have to play well to keep their place, there is competition. Bridget came in on Sunday and I thought she did really well. There’s a lot of competition in the squad, which is what you want, that competition gives everyone a push.

“In the cup, you’ve got a little more freedom because you’re not fighting for league points, but like last year, we want another good cup run.

“The hunger’s there to do it again this year.”
